I have married into a family of well-meaning, but predictably insensitive people.  For example, upon hearing my diagnosis, my mother-in-law blurted, "This family is so unlucky!  In just the last two years, your niece has died of meningitis; your uncle of a blood clot; my husband of cancer; my nephew of a heart attack… and now you!"
